Wonder Women Wednesdays: Emma Watson

Not only did she show girls everywhere that no, you don’t have to be the damsel in distress; in fact you can totally be the hero and rock some wicked curls, now she’s working with the UN. Okay so it’s nothing new that Emma Watson is working with then UN, especially since she was nominated as the Goodwill Ambassador back in July, but our perception of just how great she is just went up a notch.

The Wonder Women, absolutely dazzling actress, wickedly intelligent graduate and the UN’s goodwill ambassador delivered a beautiful speech about feminism that made us say WOW!

This weekend she delivered her speech about HeForShe, a “solidarity movement for gender equality.” United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon even introduced her in the most amazing way, by saying, “”She´s been using her magic wand in her movie. I hope she will use magic want to stop violence against women.”

Not only is her speech really inspiring, she also addresses some of the biggest issues faced by feminists. For example, “…the more I have realized that fighting for women’s rights has too often become synonymous with man-hating. If there is one thing I know for certain, it is that this has to stop.”

Thank-you Emma! By involving not only women, but also men in the HeForShe program we see that violence against women and girls is not only a women’s rights issue, but a HUMAN rights issue.

By finishing off with, “I am inviting you to step forward to be seen and to ask yourself, ´If not me, who? If not now, when?´ Thank you very, very much,” she proved to the world that not only does she deserve the title of Goodwill ambassador, but she will use the title to make a difference in the world.
